Significant technical changes of this European Standard from

the previous version

General the standard has been revised to reflect new particular safety

requirements in directive 2009/48/EC, in comparison to 88/378/EEC. The changes

of particular clauses are as follows:

1 The exclusions in the scope for certain toys and products have been adapted to the exclusions made in directive 2009/48/EC.

3 Terms and definitions of “asphyxiation”, “choking”, “suffocation”, “functional product”, “free-wheeling mechanism”, “fixed drive”, and “toy bag” added.

3.16 The term “free-wheeling” has been deleted from the definition of

“free-wheeling toy bicycle”.

4.6 Requirement added that breakable material enclosing expanding material shall be removed before testing.
