Summary of Toy Recalls in the US and European Markets - June 2026

In June 2026, this month's recall cases exhibited characteristics of concentrated risks and diverse types, with physical harm (particularly suffocation, entanglement, and puncture risks) and chemical compliance issues remaining key regulatory priorities.

1. Key Analysis of Product Recalls in the U.S. Market

In June, the U.S. CPSC intensified its enforcement actions against toys with physical structural defects and violations of specific prohibitions, with typical cases including the following:

Diving Rod Water Play Toy: Puncture Risk

On June 11, 2026, the CPSC announced a recall of the Sloosh brand diving rods manufactured in China. The product is part of the Model 40041 water play toy set. Due to substandard pressure resistance, it violates the U.S. federal diving rod ban, posing a risk of severe puncture wounds from falls or slips in shallow water areas, which may even cause injuries to the face or eyes.

Busy Version Toys: Potential Safety Hazards

On June 25, 2026, the CPSC announced a recall of busybox toys manufactured in China. These multifunctional interactive toys often involve issues such as loose small parts or sharp edges.

II. Key Analysis of Product Recalls in the EU Market

Squeezable Toys: Chemical Excess and Small Parts Risks

On June 2, 2026, the UK reported a Chinese-made donut-shaped squeeze toy. Testing revealed that the plastic material contained di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) at a concentration of 13% by weight, far exceeding the EU REACH regulation and EN 71 standard's limit of 0.1%. Additionally, the plastic molded parts and small balls on the toy were prone to detachment, posing a choking hazard.

Scooter: Mechanical Structure Defects

The recall notice issued on May 28, 2026, and its ongoing impact in Poland revealed that Chinese-made ENEROS three-wheeled balance toy scooters have serious mechanical defects. The front wheel diameter falls below standard requirements, making it prone to jamming on uneven surfaces. Additionally, the steering tube's wear resistance does not meet specifications, posing a risk of collapse, which can easily lead to children falling and getting injured.

Jigsaw Puzzle Mat (Germany): Detected harmful substances such as formamide and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, with a risk of suffocation from small parts. A full recall and destruction are required.

Lighting Drone (France): The battery and charger are electrically incompatible, accelerating battery aging and posing a fire risk, which does not comply with the EN 62115 standard.

Keychain plush toy (Austria): Small parts such as beads and pendants may detach, and the chain poses a strangulation hazard.

Plastic ball toys (Czech Republic): Excessive DEHP and DBP content, harmful to the reproductive system.

III Summary

The recall data for June 2026 once again confirms that ingestion of magnets, suffocation of small parts, entanglement of ropes, and excessive chemical substances remain the highest safety risk points in the European and American toy markets. Export enterprises must start from the design source, strictly implement ASTM F963 and EN 71 series standards, strengthen quality control throughout the entire process, especially for the control of chemical substances and stability testing of physical structures, to ensure product compliance and ensure child safety.
