Periodic testing means third party testing that must be conducted on the continuing production of children’s products. It must be performed by a CPSC-accepted third party laboratory.

Periodic testing must be conducted at a minimum of 1-, 2-, or 3-year intervals, depending upon whether the manufacturer has a periodic testing plan, a production testing plan, or plans to conduct continued testing using an accredited ISO/IEC 17025:2005 laboratory. For products manufactured domestically, the manufacturer is responsible.  For products manufactured overseas (likewise production plant is located in mainland China), the importer is responsible. 
 
The Responsible Party should work to comply with the follows:
(1) Develop and implement a written periodic testing plan;
(2) Conduct periodic testing  of children’s products at a minimum of at least once per year using a CPSC-accepted laboratory; and
(3) keep records of all periodic test plans and test results for 5 years
